You're Only Prolonging the Inevitable.

A few weeks ago when news of the Windows RPC exploit surfaced, I told some of my coworkers that if they had any clients with open access to port 135 (et al) to expect a worm. And here it is, MSBlast.

And I'm thankful for this worm, because its payload is not that bad. Infected machines just restart after 60 seconds, non-stop. Yes, this is a pain in the ass for lots of people. But it safely brings the issue to light and forces people to update their security.

Just think if someone had released a worm that was malicious and deleted the contents of the hard drive? That would seriously fuck some shit up.

The only semi-malicious thing that MSBlast does is a DDoS attack on Windows Update. That's pretty lame.

I do appreciate the message in the worm that states,

billy gates why do you make this possible? stop making money and fix your software.

P.S.: The title was intended to be a reference to the quote from Dune (1984), but it turns out the quote is Why are you going to prolong the inevitable?
