Your sword is glowing blue
June 25, 2001, 01:32 pmToday the coworkers and I have been reminiscing about the golden age of videogames. We've been talking about Kings Quest, the original 2-D Duke Nukem, and Zork. I'm still blown away by those old-school command-line interpreter games. Pretty amazing.
Wow, it is unbelievable how incredibly crappy Sierra's web site is; all I want is to see a list of the freakin' Kings Quest games, damnit!
In addition to talking about videogames, we've also been reveling in our nerdery by IRC fighting (how appropriate!). Peruse the log:
Cowboy/#itd casts spell of “Shut the hell up” on newguy [that's me]
newguy casts technique “Mouth and Soul Full of Vomit and Shit” on The Cowboy
Cowboy/#itd ducks and avoids newguy's puny technique
newguy casts Lvl 15 Nipple Tweak Attack on The Cowboy
Etc., etc,. etc.
And if that wasn't nerdy enough, I just bought the Phantasy Star Online Original Soundtrack off ebay. How nerdy is that? I bought a videogame soundtrack; that's about as nerdy as it gets.
I've been playing Sonic Adventure (not 2, the first one) a lot this weekend. My only complaints are:
- the camera has a tendancy to make me say lots of curse words really loud
- sometimes the levels are confusing in the way they're laid out (aka. it isn't obvious how the hell to finish or what the hell you're doing)
- it's too short! (I beat all Sonic's levels in just a day or so and have all the other characters levels up to about 70 or 80% complete
- it's obvious that this is a first attempt for the platform, as there are many glitches and the game just feels... beta?
At first I was kind-of annoyed by the game's many cinematic cutscenes, especially because of the really annoying voices of Sonic and Tails and crew. The cure to this is to go to Options and select the Japanese voice track with English subtitles; it's like watching an anime. :)
