yes, I saw steaming horse shit
May 06, 2001, 10:29 pmSeveral things have happened in the past four days since I've last written; however, I'm only going to write about the most recent things... the other things can wait.
Both Friday and Saturday, I spent the day at Churchill Downs working for the man (more specifically, my dad and Wave 3 TV). I had a really easy job: I followed this reporter and photographer around on the backside and when they finished their live-on-tape spots, I'd walk across the track, walk through the idiots in the crowd, and then take the tape to the Control Center Truck dealie. It was especially easy because the reporter I was following finished all her spots early on both days which left me with a lot of time to explore. My dad also hooked me up with really nice credentials: all access press pass. :) (he also got me this press pass, as sort of a joke) So I watched a race from the sixth floor roof, walked through millionaire's row, etc. It was pretty fun.
The unfortunate part of all of it, was that I had to get up extremely early (4:45am and 5:00am) for two days in a row and Thursday night, instead of getting lots of sleep, I stayed up until 2:00am reading Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card (who rocks my freakin' face off!). But they were fun and easy two days work.
What is also interesting is that before I left on Saturday, I placed a fivedollar bet on Monarchos to win the Derby. However, I didn't stay for the derby (I was tired and whatnot) and didn't even find out that I had won my first ever bet until sometime this afternoon. Hee hee... I'm not sure, but I'm told that I'll get something like fifty or sixty dollars. Weird... I promise not to become addicted to gambling; there has to be something dangerous with making money that easily!
