why is this technology an anathema to me?
October 04, 2001, 09:24 pmI went to a show for the first time in probably a year or so. I was blown away by Rainer Maria. Before the show, I'd heard a few of their songs and downloaded a few of their mp3's, but I was pretty unprepared for what happened. Wow. And they told an incredibly funny story about a Mary Kay lady giving them the finger. Ha.
To this day, I still feel unwelcome at shows. I've been going to shows off and on for a long time and I've never felt like there were people that really wanted me there. People talk about "scene unity" and how "hardcore kids are so much better than dumb highschool kids". Bah.
But there were a few people I knew there, including this kid that I used to go to highschool with. We were both in band, but weren't really friends. In fact, I used to think he was really annoying, but I am now more annoyed by negativity, so I always talk to him and try to be friendly.
And the two "scenester" kids that sit next to me in Biology were there and we hung out and talked about music and stuff. And this friend of theirs, wearing a National Acrobat shirt, talked to me about the metal band I used to be in. We talked about music and equipment and bands and then he asked if I'd play guitar and maybe sing backup for his band.
When I played drums, people were always wanting me to start bands, but I didn't even have a complete drumset and was always working at these jobs where I had to work on weekends. So I never really played with other people that much. But this kid seemed pretty cool and today he pointed me to some mp3's that his band recorded and they're not too bad. He's invited me to practice with them in a week, so I'm excited about that.
I am irritated and annoyed by people who are overly negative. I guess when I was younger, I was really negative. I'm sure there was a time when the frequency with which I said This sucks! rivaled the frequence of the words the force in The Trilogy. Ugh. Now I just can't stand it.
jerkface just informed me that Ohio has greater paved-road mileage than presant-day Russia.
