Zillion Will Be Reborn.
June 17, 2003, 11:06 amI finally got off my ass and bought some new computer hardware. My Asus A7V-whatever motherboard was kindof flaking out (or something was flaking out). I didn't really feel like troubleshooting it. Replacing my old motherboard, AMD Thunderbird 800MHz, 256 MB of RAM, and my IBM Deskstar 30 GB drive is:
- AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 2.08 GHz 333 FSB Processor
- Asus A7V8X-X Via KT400 Athlon XP DDR ATX Motherboard w/ Audio/LAN
- Western Digital Caviar SE 120 GB EIDE ATA/100 7200 RPM Hard Drive w/8 MB Buffer
- Corsair CMX512-2700C2 512 MB DDR 333 PC2700 RAM
I'm really excited about it. It's not the fastest or fanciest hardware, but it's new and it's more than good enough for me.
Back in the day, I would have scoffed at the thought of buying a motherboard with integrated audio and LAN, but these days, audio and video cards are a commodity. I couldn't care less if the onboard AC '97 audio isn't Creative Sound Blaster ® compatible. I mean, so long as xmms will play mp3s fine, I don't care. And just so long as the onboard LAN is supported and works under Linux, I don't care.
