The Slackening.
December 16, 2004, 01:45 pmI've been really bad about updating lately.
We've got a show tonight that's notable mostly because someone important is going to be there. Really exciting things are happening with the band. I'm trying not to let my imagination go too far, but it's very encouraging.
I maxed out the RAM on the clamshell. Now, loading five Mellotron samples doesn't freak it out to the verge of crashing. I think I can get maybe another year's use out of this, which will hopefully enable me to rackmount all my crap sooner than I expected. I hate, hate, hate having to plug in all my crap at every show. It takes so long for me to get setup and I always worry that I've forgotten something. With all my stuff rackmounted, everything will be significantly simpler and very quick to setup. I can't hide how excited I get about gear!
We're going to work on preproduction for 3-5 new songs to be recorded the week after Christmas. I'm really excited about them. I think they're going to turn out great.
Recently, I posted on the Tape-Op message board asking this guy that posts there to talk about his experience engineering Sparklehorse's It's a Wonderful Life and he and the session drummer for that album replied with tons of really interesting information. It makes me really want to dig up a Optigan, or at least buy the Optigan / Orchestron / Chilton Talentmaker sample set.
We've been having crazy gear issues. Jesse's amp blew a tube two weeks ago, so he took it to be replaced and also had his preamp tubes, powercord, and rack enclosure replaced. During the next practice, it went out again. And then my Sovtek had a tube go out. I replaced it with an older tube that Joe had (from his Bassman) and it's working. It makes me really nervous. Ugh. It's too bad our show tonight is at the Rudyard Kipling, and I can't just go over the PA. Oh well.
