The Shangri-Las Know What's Up. Can You Read Between the Lines?
August 02, 2004, 03:52 pmIf you run into me and I'm singing,
I met him at a candy store
He turned around and smiled at me
You get the picture?
(Yes, we see)
That's when I fell for,
the Leader of the Pack!
and then I start making the motorcycle noises, don't be alarmed.
After our family moved into the house my parents currently live in, they had a party (the only large party I remember them throwing). And for some reason, some neighborhood kids (whose parents would be attending), my sister, and I were to lip sync to the Leader of the Pack. Naturally, I was the Leader of the Pack, but not because I was so tough in the Summer before fourth grade, but because I was the only boy.
I was dressed in jeans and a white shirt, Ponyboy style, and had a comb that I would slick my hair back with. Instead of having a motorcycle, I had a pair of bicycle handlebars, which I would rev up on cue.
How embarassing is that?
I wonder if Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich's romance is anywhere as dramatic as their songs. My guess is no, but they still write the soundtrack to my unrequited, misunderstood love. Haha.
In addition to the Leader of the Pack, the Berry-Greenwich married, song writing duo is responsible for other favorites of mine, including, but not limited to:
- (Today I Met) the Boy I'm Going to Marry
- Chapel of Love
- River Deep, Mountain High
- And Then He Kissed Me
- Da Doo Run Run
