Seriously, I'm Not an Asshole.

I can't believe it!

We ate a McAlister's today. They have a weird ordering procedure where everyone in the group places their order and then they go back and everyone pays for their order. So, I placed my order and then it was my turn to pay. I paid, got my receipt & drink, and turned to walk to a table. In my mind, the social transaction was over.

But apparently, on the receipt of my order, there was a coupon for $3 off my next purchase if I participate in a survey. So as I'm leaving the counter with my receipt and drink in hand, the cashier asks me, “Did I tell you about the coupon?” which totally threw off the rhythm, since I was under the impression that my social obligations were finished.

I didn't really know what to do. Shocked, I said, “Oh, uh, no, but I can look at it later.” and walked away.

After I sat down and my coworkers came back, they said that she was really offended about what I said, that she was like, “Sorry, I was just trying to be nice.”

JB tried to cover for me, saying, “Well, we had a pretty stressful morning.”

“Well, I wish that I got paid for dealing with people's bad days, but I don't.”

Damnit! I'm really not an asshole! I felt like a total jerk.

Before we left, I appologized. I said that I didn't intend to be rude. Blah. Sometimes I'm so socially incompetent.
