Running. Flooding.

Last night as Brian, Joe, and I were enjoying a feast of thincrust pizza, I heard the sound of water coming from the other side of the basement. I checked it out and water was gushing out from the window! Near all our gear!

We sprang into action, grabbing gear and hauling it to safety on the other side of the basement.

It was pouring outside and when we got to the basement window (which is one of those below ground types), we found it to be filled to the brim with water! We grabbed some small trashcans and started bailing water like crazy. We finally got it under control and the storm let up for a while.

We walked around our yard / moat and then went back to the basement to check out the damage. The carpet we had down there on the concrete was totally soaked. We rolled it up, picked it up and let it drain for a few minutes (gross), and then ran through the house with this dripping carpet roll as if it were an Olympic event.

Then the storm picked up again and water started gushing in again. I grabbed a dust pain and used it to route the water from pouring down the wall into a trashcan. We screamed to each other like men scream in submarine movies.

Bailing the water wasn't cutting it, as it was just pouring in. I dammed the water the best I could with my foot, while Joe and I bailed like crazy. After we got enough out, I put a garbage bag over the base of the window and put gravel all over it to hold it down. Then we put the plastic shell thing that's supposed to cover the window hole back on and put trashbags around its base with rocks to hold it down.

Later, while we were scooping up water from the basement, you could see that the window hole was completely filled with water again, but it wasn't leaking at all! Yay, ad hoc engineering!

I hope none of our gear was damaged. Mark's pedalboard got pretty wet, but I hear if you let it dry out well they'll be okay.

I'm tired.
