Reactionary.
July 17, 2003, 12:07 pmHistorically, I have been very reactionary in my blog. Something happens, and then I write about it (particularly with respect to movies, videogames, whatever technical thing people happen to be talking about, &c.).
Number 8 on Jeremy Zawadny's post, The 10 Habits of Highly Annoying Bloggers, is “Bloggers who react but rarely act.” I feel like I've been way to reactionary and intend to change my ways.
But first, lemme tell you what I thought about Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. I enjoyed watching it. I like the Terminater series a lot. Terminator 2 is definitely my favorite, which is one of the reasons why I liked Terminator 3, because T3 would be more accurately titled, Terminator 2.5.
Seriously. Search-and-replace every instance of Robert Patrick (who is amazing, btw) with Kristanna Løken and you'd get T3. The plot is essentially the same, except replace Miles Dyson's centrally developed “neural net processor” for fuckin' KaZaa. I bet the MPAA asked the screenwriters to try to lay a guilt trip on all the P2P using, file sharing college kids (it's your fault that SkyNet is created and destroys all of mankind!). Lame.
If you watch the nice extras included with the 2-disc Terminator 2 DVD, there is a funny deleted scene where John Connor tries to teach the Terminator how to smile, in order to act more human. Of course, the Terminator's first attempt at smiling is hilarious and makes Arnold look like a freakin' horse or something. James Cameron said he took it out for two reasons: the scene didn't really add much to the plot and it contributed to a lull in the middle of the film; and James Cameron didn't want to make the fun of the Terminator, to make his character the butt end for lame jokes. The makers of T3 apparently have no qualms about making the Terminator look ridiculous.
Overall, I liked watching the movie and if a reasonably priced DVD is released with some nice extra features, I'll probably buy it.
