New Computer == Fast!

So my new computer came in yesterday morning. I ate lunch at home ('cause I have a sweet girlfriend who made me lunch) and started putting it all together. By the time I had to go back to work, everything had been assembled.

I got home last night and started installing Debian GNU/Linux. A couple hours later, I had most everything installed and rolled a brand new 2.4.21 kernel, but I couldn't run X because my USB mouse wasn't being recognized.

I've installed USB mice tons of times, so I couldn't understand what the problem was. It turns out, that I had compiled support for ehci-hcd usb host (for support of USB 2.0) but not included the usb-uhci usb host driver. I assumed that ehci-hcd would support oldschool support.

Fixed it and now X is working like a champ.

Now I just have to restore my documents/mp3 collection/&c. from backup, get my onboard sound card working (it's supposed to be supported by the snd-via82xx ALSA driver, but it isn't (I haven't been able to get it to work yet)), install cd burning tools (and compile IDE-SCSI emulation in the kernel). I've got lots more to do, but I'm excited.

I still can't get over how freakin' fast everything is! I mean, I remember it was pretty nice with my Athlon 800MHz, but this is just awesome! It makes me really disappointed that every day at work I have to tolerate a K6-3 450MHz... Yuck.
