My Love of Wikipedia.
February 14, 2005, 05:28 pmHave I mentioned my love of Wikipedia? I've been there all day today. It's become my new favorite site: it's like IMDB, but for all kinds of crap.
The launch of the first GPS satellite was listed in the "Selected Anniversaries" heading today and I started reading about space-related topics. When I was a little kid, I had all these books about planets and stars and space travel, and I used to think about it alot. All day, I've been reading about these terrifying and large-scale events like the Giant impact theory, Permian-Triassic extinction event, the Chicxulub crater... it's freaking me out a little.
Other scary things include:
- Fermi Paradox
- Rare Earth hypothesis
- the Schutzstaffel, (I never knew what SS was an acronym for)
- and the Antarctic Treaty System (who owns Antarctica?)
But now I'm trying to relax and not stress out about extinction, aliens, and the destruction of our world by reading this convenient list of Latin phrases.
The word of the day is: Occulation.
