My “Adventures” in “The Wild”.

Since Saturday, I have been at my parents' cabin. To my knowledge, the nearest person is a few miles away.

For the most part, it is incredibly quiet, with the exception of my computer's annoyingly loud fans, my guitars, and music/movies from the stereo. The silence is occasionally punctuated by a loud *WHACK* as this tree in my parents' yard sheds its nuts (haha... nuts).

On Monday, something strange and unexpected happened: wild turkeys were walking about! One of them walked on the back of my parents' deck! It was almost four feet tall (I think... I'm not good with guessing height, weight, or age of anything, let alone turkeys).

I opened a window and started making noises at it (at first, just stereotypical turkey noises, but later I tried calling it with my Homestar Runner voice). I think I just freaked it out, 'cause it was desperately trying to get away. It couldn't figure out how to get out the way it came (dumb bird!), and so it just tried to escape through the railing. Frantically, it tried to squeeze through and finally it got free and kindof floated down to the ground. Weird.

And then yesterday, I was reading on the dock, and I heard these bird-like chirping sounds from the lake. But it wasn't birds, it was otters! They kindof freaked me out, because I couldn't see them well and I mostly saw their tails, which looked like snakes.

They swam up the cove to this place on the shore where they played for half an hour or so. Weird.

I don't think I've previously mentioned it, but my mom has a Red Rider bb gun and I'm a self-proclaimed, excellent marksman. Paper plates and soda cans better not ever fool with me!

Also, I bought the Season 1 & 2 DVD sets of Family Guy. Oh, man! It's awesome! I've watched all the episodes and listened to all the commentary. That show is so good. I think I'll have to get the Season 3 set as well.

I've been reading Neal Stephenson's Quicksilver and it's okay. I'm about 66% finished. I like it, but it's just not as good as Cryptonomicon or any of his other books. I'll probably read the other books that are in the Quicksilver series. I can't resist!.
