(my first) fugazi show
April 05, 2002, 02:03 pmOh my.... where do I begin? Last night at old Male high school, I saw The Rachels, The Shipping News, and Fugazi. My mind is blown.
First: The Rachels. I think my coworker Chris has one of their CDs, 'cause their name is really familiar to me. They totally blew away my expectations. I admit to wishing that they would sound like The Rentals (still can't get over them) when I saw their equipment setup. But the films they showed and their music was incredible. It's refreshing to actually hear dynamics...
Second: The Shipping News. I liked the first song they played, but most of the other songs they played were just okay. I guess since I'd never heard them before I wasn't as into them as I could be. But they were obviously talented and they played tight.
Third: Fugazi. I was so excited that Fugazi had an extra percussionist playing the tamborine, shaker, and extra drumset parts because they really make the songs sound so much better. And whoever was doing the sound for the show did an incredible job because everything sounded so good! Fugazi played pretty much all my favorite songs (if they'd played Bad Mouth the place would've rocked to the ground) and they were really, really good. I think they played a two hour set and by the end, I was so tired and worn out.
And to top off all the craziness: I ran into the drummer from the metal band I played bass in (Via Satellite). The last time I saw him, we were recording at In Transit Studio in December of 1999. How weird is that?!
Tonight, the Audio/Video Club rocks Leitchpatch... Aww, yeah!
