but it's days like this that keep me alive

The first breath I took this morning as I walked to my car was so refreshing. The air was a bit chilly. Oh, it was so perfect. I love the sound of dry, fallen leaves crunching under my shoes. I love driving with the windows down, wearing my blue, hooded, zippered sweatshirt and singing songs by The Promise Ring and The Get Up Kids.

And driving to school, I couldn't stop myself from singing nickel wound by Texas is the Reason:

it's getting cold all over again
so i'm being inside way too much again
this is becoming too routine for me

there will be time for this tomorrow,
but it's days like this that keep me alive!
is there any left for me?
daylight's almost over now,
can't think of any more to say

Saturday, in my boredom, I decided to play Sonic the Hedgehog for the SEGA Genesis (btw, in case anyone is curious MESS's genesis emulation has improved greatly since the last time I checked). I used to beat this game all the time when I first got my Genesis, but I don't think I ever bothered to get all the Chaos Emeralds. Well, I bothered on Saturday and it wasn't really worth the effort. But at least I can say I've done it. I plan to replay Sonic 2 soon; I have many fond memories of that game.

Back in the day, I used to be of the opinion, "Yeah, the SuperNES has prettier graphics, but the SEGA Genesis is so much faster." Man, was I so dumb. While it's true that the Genesis's Motorola 68000 processor ran at a dazzling 7.67 MHz (compared to the SNES's 65C816 running at 3.58 MHz), it could only display 64 colors onscreen (out of a palette of only 512 colors). Plus, considering the suckage of the Genesis's sound hardware (aka. a crappy Z80) in comparison to the SNES's Sony SPC7000 that could mix 8 channels of sound, there's really no argument. There aren't even that many games that warrant owning a Genesis; there are the Sonic games... and that's all I can think of. Oh, Altered Beast is fun for a short while, the Streets of Rage series are among the best beat-em-ups ever, and I enjoyed the Shinobi games. But that's about it.

I'm not even going to go into how many great games that are worth playing for the SNES, but to mention just a few: Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Super Castlevania, Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Star Fox, the Donkey Kong Country series... ugh. So good. I'm not even going to bring up the Mortal Kombat argument (that some people say MK was better on the Genesis because it had blood and the SNES version didn't). The SNES version looked good and had great music. And so far, the best console port of MK2 is the SNES version. It shouldn't have even been released for the Genesis.

Of course, since jerkface was a devout SNES fanboy and I owned a Genesis and once thought it superior to the SNES, he tries to get into the SNES vs. Genesis argument with me; he's always so disappointed when I agree with him. :)
