Applying Synth Technology to Taste!

A week or two ago, JB bought some jellybeans (perhaps they were Jolly Ranchers?). A number of the flavors either packed a overwhelmingly powerful initial-taste and/or had displeasing after-tastes. And I was thinking how this applied to Envelope Generators on synths.

In synths, sounds are commonly manipulated with envelope generators that break a sound down into four parts over time: Attack, Decay, Sustain, & Release (ADSR). So using these terms, I was trying to explain how the grape jellybeans had very strong Attacks and the orange have very long and unpleasant Releases. And I drew this graph:

a graph showing attack, decay, sustain, and release on time and taste axies

And now you know.
