a nightmare inspired by Being John Malkovich
December 21, 2001, 11:25 amIt's funny how when I'm out of school, I have to get up earlier to go to work. It's been hard and I haven't been going in as early as I felt like I should.
When I came in to work today, Kurt was handing out Christmas presents. It kindof wasn't as fun as one might expect, 'cause we all knew what we were getting: these crazy popcorn makers. Kurt is way into popcorn. It's kind of funny. He's cooler than all bosses I know.
And then Donk asked me to come over to his computer, 'cause he wanted my help or something. When I got there, he had a bunch of windows open but he minimized them all concurrently and his background was this picture that I took yesterday with his digital camera. It's this really close up picture of my nose and up... kinda scary. And then I went over to Chris's desk, 'cause she said, "Hey newguy, can you help me figure this thing out?" And when I got to her desk, the superhuge picture of me was her background too...
In a somewhat George Bailey-like panic, I ran to Kurt's desk to see if he was in on it too... phew. Thank God. He had just a plain, color background.
Now I'm listening to Bjork's Vespertine album and it's calming me down a lot. Good thing. Shortly, the ITD crew will go eat at India Hut. I miss eating with my coworkers.
After work, I'll go pick up Jesse and we'll drive South for rock'n'roll practice. And after that, I'll stay at my parents' house and go to bed early and read a book. And in the morning, my father and I will climb in his car and drive far North to get my sister. I can't wait. I'm so glad that I've been getting to see my sister more this year. We'll probably go see L to tha' motherfuckin' R. Or just sit around and listen to Pinback. And Ericka will get to meet my new guitar.
I only wish that I'd prepared and made a mixtape of stuff that my dad and I both like: John Prine, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Who, the Bruce Springsteen (that's The Boss, to you, sucka).
